SSB Entry #10: Sam & Ruby
Aint Love Somethin (Album Version) - Sam & Ruby
I don't even know where to begin about the music that emerges when these two spend time together. Sam Brooker and Ruby Amanfu are two of the most talented songwriters this town has to offer, and four years ago when they decided to try out a career as a duo, they surprised the Nashville industry with a passion and a chemistry that is altogether breathtaking. While they couldn't be more different, the music they make together creates an immediate intimacy that is unexpectedly sensuous. They aren't married and never have been a couple, but you would swear that they had been together for a lifetime.
Sam & Ruby are so dear to my heart simply because they make music that is relateable and classic. They blend smooth R&B with homegrown Americana to produce a sound that's both original and familiar all at the same time. Their song, "Heaven's My Home," which was written by Ruby and friend Katie Herzig won a Grammy a few years back when The Duhks made it their own. Just this past year Sam & Ruby's version hit the silver screen in The Secret Life of Bees creating a perfect artistic marriage between two beautiful audio and visual moments.
Their music and their lives inspire me to celebrate the life I live, just as I live it. And to appreciate the little blessings that God bestows upon each of us. I just feel so blessed to call them friends.
